Aguanga is nestled in the foothills
across Temecula Creek valley from the Palomar Mountains, right in the shadow
of the world's once-largest reflecting telescope -- that 200 inch glass
monster on Mt. Palomar that is still busily searching the universe as it
has been doing since Harry Truman's presidency in 1949, despite competition
from Hubble and all its technology.
To the northeast are the backsides of the San Jacinto Mountains that tower over Palm Springs. To the northwest are the Santa Ana Mountains. To the west is the city of Temecula.
It may look as if there are no roads around Aguanga, but
if you zoom in on the map below in you will see the
small town is at the hub of several important routes. Highway 79 South is
the main route between Temecula and resorts like Julian and Borrago Springs.
Highway 371 heads north from Aguanga to just past Anza where it connects
with Highway 74, the road between Hemet and Palm Desert
The best route to Jojoba
Hills SKP Resort is on Highway 79 South from Interstate-15 in Temecula.
It is about 17 miles over a two-lane road with moderate curves and grades.
Do drive carefully.
You can also drive up from the southeast on Country Road S2 and catch Highway 79 just south of Warner Springs.
The entrance to the resort is on the north side of the road, about one half mile west of the Aguanga post office. There is a long left turn lane for those coming from Temecula, so the turn-off is easy.
As you approach the gate, there is a keypad for calling
the office. The staff will open the gate remotely and you can drive to the
stop sign at the office, park, and register.
It is possible to reach Jojoba
Hills SKP Resort on Highway 79 from the south or Highway 371 from the north.
However these roads are more winding, narrow, and have some steep grades.
Highway 371 connects with Highway 74 which runs between Palm Desert and
Hemet. There is a series of switchbacks on that road above Palm Desert,
so watch your brakes.
If you do travel either of those routes, watch for the sharp turns and steep grades.
NOTICE: California DOT restricts all roads leading to Jojoba
Hills to motorhomes of 40 ft or less, in length. Trailers are not restricted.
